Intel releases new microcode updates for Skylake series products. Over a month has passed since Intel released their initial Spectre Microcode fixes, fixes that had to be pulled from the market after it was discovered that they were causing reboot issues and other stability problems on a range of Intel products. These issues were so harmful to customers that Microsoft had to release an optional Windows patch to disable Intel's Spectre 2 mitigations in software, compromising security for the sake of stability. Now Intel has released a new microcode update for their Skylake-based products, which is expected to be releasing in OEM firmware updates soon. Intel's Navin Shenoy, the company's executive vice president and general manager of their Data Center Group, has stated that they expect to release microcode updates for more platforms "in the coming days" while also supplying beta microcode to OEMs for testing purposes.
